Friendships lost, friendships that last
by MariFer Carmona

I wrote this poem as I was praying one day over a conflict I had with some friends. At the time, I was telling the Lord that I was heartbroken and afraid that I would no longer have these friends in my life. I was also ranting to Him about everything that had happened and telling Him I couldn't understand why this was happening and how things had blown up so much out of proportion. Then, the last lines of this poem came to my mind, I heard the Lord tell me, "Trust me, everything will be ok, even if you say goodbye for now, you and your friends will laugh about it in heaven". After that, I couldn't shake off the feeling that I needed to write about this experience, so I flipped the page, and the verses started flowing. Soon enough, I was done, and I felt much better, still a little heartbroken, but hopeful. I share it with you now, hoping that, if you've ever had to mourn a lost friendship, it will bring you comfort, peace and hope.

As children we say "friendships last forever",

but then we grow up and some don't make it further.

"The lord gives, and the lord takes."

This is a hard lesson to learn.

sometimes it hurts, sometimes it's easy.

at times, we don't trust when you're not pleasing

us, we keep pleading

"lord, give me what I want

i don't care if it's fleeting."

"oh you of little faith", you say

Trust my words and ease your pain

This is all for heaven's sake

I place people in your life to help you attain

that which you want most beyond today.

There is a place where forever lasts

where love is free, and sins are past

Here, childlike dreams take form at last.

So hope, hope beyond despair

let go of your attachments

and hold on to me instead.

Be docile, pray and grow.

Please, let my grace flow.

Can you trust my plans?

Your friends are in good hands.

Yes, lord, I'll pray, trust and grow.

I'll wrestle, but I'll choose to let go.

Then, even if I say goodbye for now,

it won't be forever,

because my friends and I

will laugh about it in heaven.
